Taman Mini Indonesia Indah/TMII (literally translated: “Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park”) is a recreation area and park which is the synopsis of virtual aspects of Indonesian life, representing the cultures, natures and heritages of Indonesian people. TMII located at an area called Pondok Gede, East Jakarta, with total width of 165 hectares.
TMII as a vehicle to present the diversity of the Indonesian nation and the diversity of cultural treasures, so that people can draw from the experience, knowledge and information of interest about the life of the various aspects of culture, traditions, customs, various forms of art until the introduction of cultural objects.
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah is a garden-based culture, featuring miniature depicting the beauty and diversity of Indonesia in a small land area of East Jakarta.
Is popularly known as Taman Mini, the contents of this park is 26 replica of a traditional custom homes are found throughout the Indonesian archipelago, from Aceh to Borneo, Sulawesi, Java and Papua. These miniatures portray the history, arts, crafts and traditions of each province. Built for family education and recreation, Taman Mini has a large area for family recreation, a number of flora and fauna parks, museums, theater performances, Imax theater and accommodation facilities.
To further express tolerance in Indonesia and peaceful coexistence among believers-believers in the whole archipelago, this park also established houses of worship is still in active use such as mosques, temples, monasteries, churches Catholic and Protestant churches.
Not far away there is a large lake with islands of native Indonesia in it. From the air the visitors can see the overall shape of a map of Indonesia at the lake.
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah is the brainchild of Mrs. Tien Soeharto, Indonesia's former first lady. Mini Park construction began in 1971 and inaugurated on 20 April 1975.
